Batsheva Elran is the Founder and Managing Partner of Opal Ventures. She is one of the founders of the Israeli Healthcare Venture Capital Industry with over 20 years of business experience. Prior to that, Batsheva was a legal advisor with the anti-trust authorities and an attorney, specializing in intellectual property and business law litigation. Currently, a Managing Partner of Medica3, a $115M healthcare venture fund, building and investing in companies including Remon Medical, acquired by Boston Scientific and Ventor Technologies, acquired by Medtronic. In addition to Expanding Orthopedics Inc, she is a chairperson of Endymed Ltd and a board member of IC Green Ltd. She has a multidisciplinary background in healthcare, investments management and business law. Batsheva holds a BSc cum laude in Pharmacy, the Hebrew University, a LL.B. the University of Tel-Aviv and an Executive MBA, University of Bradford, UK and she is a certified board member.
Carrie Bates is Managing Partner at Triathlon Medical Ventures. She has over 20 years of venture and operating experience related to medical devices and pharmaceuticals. At Guidant Corporation she ran Compass, Guidant's venture group. Prior to that, she held various senior management operating positions at Guidant and Eli Lilly. She is Chairman of the Board of CS-Keys and is on the Board of Directors of Mitralign and Pradama. Carrie She has an MBA from Stanford, a BS in Finance and a BS in Computer Science, and is a CPA.
Mike Sherman has been a partner of MB Venture Partners since he joined the firm after a successful 15-year career at Memphis-based Medtronic Sofamor Danek (MSD), a subsidiary of Medtronic. Mike joined Danek as the Director of Product Development in early 1991. In 1999, he assumed the position of Vice President of Technology Development where he was responsible for technical and business due diligence on acquisitions, in-licensing activities, and strategic investments. He is an inventor of MSD's SEXTANT System and has 66 issued US patents with over 30 pending applications. Mike received his BSc in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and a MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas, Southwestern Graduate School in Dallas, TX.
Robin Young is the founder and president of RRY Publications and Robin Young Consulting Group, a firm specializing in evaluating and promoting orthopedic technologies and companies through a disciplined and comprehensive analysis of the industry, its participants, procedures, technologies and patient trends. Robin is an internationally recognized expert in his field, with over two decades of experience. Over the course of his career, Robin has been an active and integral part of the development, analysis and funding of several major orthopedic technologies. After a successful career as one of the leading medical technology analysts on Wall Street (Stephens, Inc., Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood, John G. Kinnard and Company), he was instrumental in forming and managing the HealthpointCapital research and private equity practice. In conjunction with HealthpointCapital, he wrote three highly acclaimed orthopedic industry reference books. Robin is the author of over 1,000 published articles and research reports and several published books on various medical and investment topics.
Dr. Hansen Yuan is Professor of Orthopedic and Neurological Surgery at State University of New York, Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, has held numerous leadership positions in several spine societies and is a past president of the North American Spine Society (NASS). Dr. Yuan serves as Editor in Chief of the ISASS on Line Journal and is the author of numerous publications on spine pathologies and treatments. Dr. Yuan has advised several market leaders in the spine industry and has been extensively involved in product development with these organizations and through his own innovative inventions and entrepreneurial efforts.
Dr. Mark M. Levy is the founder of EOI. He brings 28 years of medical and academic experience to the company. Mark is currently an Adjunct Lecturer for the Biomedical Engineering Department at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. He is a member of numerous medical and research organizations and is the author of 14 academic publications and 48 published abstracts. He has 10 issued patents and 9 pending patent applications for new technologies in orthopedic surgery. Mark received his MD degree from the University of Zulia, Venezuela and his Doctorate of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the Technion. He completed his training in Orthopedic Surgery at the Rambam Medical Center, Haifa, Israel and his clinical and research fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopedic Center, University of Oxford.
Ofer Bokobza is the CEO and a member of the Board of Directors. He joined EOI in April 2010 with more than 20 years' experience in executive level positions in the semiconductor market, mainly in the Silicon Valley, California. Ofer served as VP of New Market Development at FormFactor (NASDAQ: FORM), and as VP and GM for their $300M DRAM Business Unit. Previously, he worked at Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT), where he held various management positions, most recently, as Managing Director and GM for the Productivity and Yield Tools Division. He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
